Close, but no cigar

It’s the end of May and it seems like I’ve played a record number of rounds, for me, in Finland for the year. Many, many rounds more than the previous years. Comparing the stats is interesting and depressing at the same time.

It’s June tomorrow and I’ve already logged 20 plus rounds. Most have been individual rounds with only a couple of scrambles so far.

As an overall summary of my game so far I am scoring more doubles or worse than average, but less penalties per round.

But the main stand out is the the birdie rate – I know shi*t avoidance is a better metric but my numbers are really low right now. It is mostly because I am rubbish off the tee and struggling a bit with distance control.

If my putts per round were similar to previous years I should be better than last year at least. I am hitting more greens but taking 3 more putts a round at the moment.

There is time to turn this around though.

Highlights over the past couple of rounds were 7-irons into par 3s. On Thursday I hit the pin. Admittedly the flag stopped the ball for going off the green,. I missed the 2 meter putt for birdie.

Today, a similar distance ended up centimetres for the hole. Easy birdie in what turned out to be quite a decent, not brilliant round.
